Canada's minister of Citizenship and Immigration Issues Invitations for Permanent Residence Under Express Entry System

Ottawa, July 4, 2024 – The Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Marc Miller, has released the latest round of invitations to apply for permanent residence under the Express Entry system. This round, focused on trade occupations, marks another step in Canada’s ongoing effort to attract skilled workers to its shores.

A total of 1,800 invitations were issued, with the cut-off Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score set at 436. The tie-breaking rule was applied to profiles submitted before July 16, 2023, at 15:44:59 UTC, ensuring a fair selection process.

This round included invitations for candidates eligible under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Program. The Express Entry system, which began in 2014, has been instrumental in managing applications for these programs, streamlining the process for qualified individuals seeking to make Canada their new home.

Eligibility Criteria for Federal Skilled Trade Occupations

To qualify for this round, candidates needed to meet specific criteria related to work experience. Over the past three years, applicants must have accumulated at least six months of continuous full-time work experience, or an equivalent amount of part-time work, in one of the designated trade occupations. This experience must align with the duties and responsibilities outlined in the National Occupational Classification (NOC).

Designated Trade Occupations

The occupations targeted in this round include:

  • Contractors and supervisors, other construction trades, installers, repairers, and servicers
  • Welders and related machine operators
  • Electricians (except industrial and power system)
  • Plumbers
  • Carpenters
  • Construction millwrights and industrial mechanics
  • Heating, refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics
  • Machine fitters
  • Elevator constructors and mechanics
  • Residential and commercial installers and servicers

These professions are crucial to supporting Canada’s infrastructure and industrial sectors, and the government continues to prioritize skilled tradespeople in its immigration strategy.

Next Steps for Invited Candidates

Invited candidates now have the opportunity to submit their applications for permanent residence. This involves providing detailed information about their qualifications, work experience, and other relevant factors. Successful applicants will be granted permanent resident status, allowing them to live and work in Canada indefinitely.
