Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program 2025: Intake Opens July 28

Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program 2025: Intake Opens in Late July

Updated: July 24, 2025 – Ottawa

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has confirmed that the Parents and Grandparents Program 2025 will officially begin accepting applications starting July 28, 2025. This year, up to 10,000 complete applications will be accepted for sponsorship under this family reunification program.

If you submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 but have not yet received an invitation, check your email inbox carefully, including your junk and spam folders. Invitations will be sent out over the course of approximately two weeks beginning July 28.

Who Can Be Invited to Apply in 2025?

Due to the remaining number of submissions from the 2020 intake, IRCC will not open a new interest to sponsor form in 2025. Instead, it will continue selecting potential sponsors from the 2020 pool.

Those selected will receive an invitation to apply and must submit their sponsorship applications through either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal.

Super Visa: The Best Alternative to the Parents and Grandparents Program

If you did not submit an interest to sponsor form in 2020—or are not eligible under the PGP program, the Super Visa is a great alternative for reuniting with your parents or grandparents in Canada. This multiple-entry visa is valid for up to 10 years and allows your loved ones to stay in Canada for up to 5 years at a time, with the option to extend their visit by an additional 2 years without leaving the country.

The Super Visa is ideal for those who want a faster, more flexible way to bring family members to Canada for extended stays.

Tips for Sponsors:

  • Double-check the email you used in your 2020 submission.
  • Monitor your inbox during the last week of July through mid-August.
  • Prepare your supporting documents and financial assessments in advance.

Received an Invitation? Here’s How to Apply

If you receive an invitation to apply under the 2025 Parents and Grandparents Program, you must submit your complete sponsorship application through either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal. Be sure to gather all required documents, including financial proofs and relationship documents, and submit your application within the deadline specified in the invitation. Missing the deadline or submitting an incomplete application may result in your submission being refused.
